Why this website?
5050box.com is here to get the startup capital needed to kick off 5050box. This is just stage one. 5050box is not a typical internet startup. There will be real world products that I think you will love.
What is it about the mosaic?
By collecting hands via webcams I have the biggest audience imaginable.
Every single computer user with a webcam can upload a picture of hands within just a few seconds. The hands will then be used to create a mosaic directly on the server. The more hands are uploaded the clearer the mosaic will get.
As soon as 5050 hands were uploaded the mosaic is finished. It will be the biggest picture of hands from all over the world entirely created by computer users. A piece of art and internet history.
Who is behind 5050box?
I am Daniel and I live in Germany.
For quite a while I had this idea to set up a company that gives away 50% and... well, I thought it is crazy. On the other hand I just think it is worth the try. My universe is filled with wife 1.0 and four wonderful kids. So no: This is not about the money. And yes: I really do believe that we can change some things on this planet.

What about business angels or investors?
I do believe that business angels and venture capitalist are a good idea for "normal" startups. For a certain share of your company you will get the money to kick off. That is the deal.
5050box will give away 50% of the money.
That is not a joke or a false promise as in "clever marketing campaign". Investors usually invest because they think they make a good investment. That means they get their money back and profit from taking risks. A simple example: An investor takes 30% of 5050box for lending money and 5050box gives away 50% only 20% remain to keep the company running.
100% - 50% (to change the world) - 30% (for the investor) = 20%. Not really the formula 5050box would work with.
In other words: I am asking everybody to be my angel. Smaller portions, many hands.
